Researcher in Material Theory
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of Uppsala University's largest departments, with world-class research and education in both theoretical and experimental physics, and extensive collaboration with the outside world.
The Research Division for Material Theory comprises approximately 90 people, of which 25 are PhD students. Research topics range from very fundamental quantum mechanical phenomena to advanced investigations of new functional materials, often with applications in technologies that can be described as lying within the area of 'green energy'. The Division for Material Theory offers a unique research environment, and the researcher should benefit from and contribute to the extensive expertise in numerical studies of materials' vibrational and magnetic spectroscopy.
Job Responsibilities
The researcher will be responsible for developing theoretical methods for simulations of the scattering of fast electrons on coupled spin and lattice excitations. Time-resolved studies and studies of temperature dependencies are anticipated. He/she will develop new and efficient algorithms for simulations of scanning electron microscopy with atomic resolution and drive collaborations with experimental groups in this area.
Qualifications
The requirement for employment is a PhD in physics, materials science, or equivalent. Solid knowledge of quantum mechanics and condensed matter physics is required, as well as good communication skills in English. Documented experience in atomistic spin dynamics, lattice dynamics, and simulations of electron beam propagation is also required for the position.
Desirable/meritorious
In-depth knowledge of simulations of electron energy loss spectroscopy of phonons and/or magnons is meritorious.
About the Position
The position is permanent, and the researcher will work within the Division for Material Theory. The position is full-time (100%). Start date is 2026-03-01 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala
